IMCID 2022: 8th edition of the International Multidisciplinary Course on Iron Deficiency

On 21st and 22nd October, Stresa will host the eighth edition of the IMCID 2022, the international congress dedicated to iron deficiency, organised with the sponsorship of PharmaNutra.

Following on from the PharmaNutra WPC – World Partner Convention 2022, Stresa is now preparing to host another important scientific event: the eighth edition of the IMCID – International Multidisciplinary Course on Iron Deficiency.

The congress, the first edition of which was held in 2013, will bring together more than 330 physicians and researchers from all over the world, to present the results of the most recent scientific studies on iron deficiency, a nutritional deficiency that affects millions of people worldwide and is known to be the major cause of anaemia, a medical condition that is transverse to a number of medical disciplines.

During the two days of the IMCID (21-22 October), 29 speakers will be presenting some 14 posters on the effects and results of the treatment of iron deficiency in a range of clinical settings, such as paediatrics, obstetrics, gastroenterology, cardiology, oncology, PBM and internal medicine. The congress will also feature a series of focus sessions dedicated to the importance that iron supplementation and the treatment of anaemia have taken on over the last few years with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IMCID is the result of the partnership of an international faculty of specialists, all of whom have great experience and knowledge of the various aspects associated with iron deficiency in their different areas of expertise. The Scientific Committee of this eighth edition will be chaired by Dr. Sandro Barni, Director of the Department of Oncology and Professor Emeritus of Treviglio Hospital, and by Prof. Manuel Muñoz, of the Department of Surgery, Biochemistry and Immunology of the University of Malaga and member of the Management Board of the NATA, as well as of the IFPBM (International Foundation for Patient Blood Management).

PharmaNutra Chairman Andrea Lacorte declared: “The International Multidisciplinary Course on Iron Deficiency is a scientific event of great importance in the field of iron deficiency, in terms of both the increasingly international scope it has assumed over the years and the quality and validity of the new clinical studies that are presented at each edition. Sponsoring and promoting congresses of this calibre is not just an honour, but also an ethical and professional commitment for a company like PharmaNutra, which invests constantly in research and in improving its technologies. It is our pleasure to do so once again this year together with our historical partner, Zambon Iberia.”

Germano Tarantino, Chief Scientific Officer of PharmaNutra, added: “Research in the iron deficiency field has made great progress in recent years. Since the last edition of the IMCID in 2019, a number of studies have been published that have given us increasingly in-depth insight into the mechanisms of iron absorption and consequently allowed us to improve treatments in various clinical settings, making this year’s edition particularly interesting for all the physicians and specialists involved. Therefore, our heartfelt thanks go not only to Dr. Sandro Barni and Prof. Manuel Muñoz for agreeing to chair the Scientific Committee of the IMCID, but also to all the researchers and speakers who have worked on the publication and presentation of the studies included in the programme, thereby contributing to the dissemination of important scientific data.”
